Your Guide to Purchasing NFA Items

Whether you’re interested in a suppressor, short-barreled rifle (SBR), short-barreled shotgun (SBS), or other regulated items, we’re here to make your first NFA purchase as smooth as possible. While the process requires patience and attention to detail, our experienced team will guide you through every step.

What Makes NFA Items Special?

NFA items are federally regulated firearms and accessories that require special approval from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). This means additional paperwork, a $0 tax stamp (as of January 1, 2026), and a waiting period. But don’t worry, we handle the complex parts for you.

Step 1: Choose Your NFA Item

Browse our extensive inventory of suppressors, SBRs, and other NFA items. Our knowledgeable staff can help you select the perfect item for your needs, whether it’s a whisper-quiet suppressor for your home defense pistol or a compact SBR for your collection. Once you’ve made your selection, we’ll confirm it’s in stock and begin your paperwork immediately.

Step 2: Decide on Individual or Trust Purchase

You have two primary options for ownership:

Individual Purchase: The item is registered to you personally. This is often the simplest route for single owners.

Trust Purchase: The item is registered to a legal trust. This option offers benefits like allowing multiple trustees to possess the item and simplified inheritance planning. If you don’t have a trust yet, we can recommend attorneys who specialize in NFA trusts.

Step 3: Complete Your ATF Form 4

The ATF Form 4 is the application for tax paid transfer and registration of your NFA item. We will work with you to ensure every section is completed correctly; accuracy is crucial to avoid delays. The form requires:

  • Your personal information and citizenship documentation
  • A passport-style picture (that we take on-site
  • Trust documentation (if applicable)

Step 4: Submit and Wait

Once your Form 4 is complete, we submit it to the ATF on your behalf. Current wait times vary but typically range from 6-20 days for eForms filings. We know waiting is the hardest part, but we’ll keep you updated on your application’s status.

During this time, your NFA item stays securely in our safes. You’re welcome to visit and inspect it (though you cannot take possession until approval). Many customers use this time to purchase accessories, ammunition, or schedule training for when their item arrives.

Step 5: Approval and Pick-Up

The magical day arrives—your Form 4 is approved! We’ll call you when we receive your approval e-mail, which you will also receive. When you come to pick up your NFA item, it will basically be a typical firearms transfer, but with no fee and no background check. Be sure to bring:

  • Valid government-issued photo ID (like a driver’s license; passports are not accepted)
  • Your approved tax stamp e-mail (we also have a copy)

We’ll complete the standard 4473 transfer form, and once cleared, you’ll finally take possession of your NFA item.
